Denim shorts with black tights and black boots, can I work it?

It's winter but I'm tired of wearing jeans all the time. I have a pair of short denim shorts that I love but never get to wear anymore.

Can I pair the denim shorts with black tights and black slouchy boots? I tried it on and it looked good to me, but I need to double check. I would wear a white fitted t-shirt with it and then a black long vest.

What do you think? Fashion no-no? I saw a girl working the tights with shorts look and she look great. So I just need other opinions :)
 
i don't understand why people are beginning to wear the denim shorts and tights, tights are amazing but paired up with shorts is awkward unless they're some sort of softer material with an oversized sweater/cardigan. if you really want to wear the denim with tights, i woudl replace the shorts with a skirt or an oversized top that you can wear a corset belt with; the boots are a very nice touch though. If you still like the vest however, wear a camisole underneath your vest like you suggested but without the shorts, alsp ear with a scarf and hat since its starting to get very cold out.
