deleting emails?

I looked and tried , hopefully u all know. I have a 8700g and is there a way I can delete the emails in my gmail box on my handheld all at once without doing one at a time?

Highlight a date, hit menu key and select delete prior. Or Hold ALT + roll trackball to highlight emails and hit menu key > delete.

tried that don't work..It works for new messages but I think I have to go on my home pc to my gmail acct to delete them. Because I have been deleting one at a time and there always seem to be 80 emails in there no matter what.

I use the shift button and roll the ball to highlight all emails I want to delete (I have done this for emails all in a row, I don't know how it would work if I were to skip an email). Once I have highlighted all the emails, I click on the ball again and then hit delete and choose which options I want.
