I was put on Nexium/then Protonix over two years ago. Was on PPIs for about 5 months and half the time, I was double dosing. I stopped for two years, but after a recent enRABcopy showed esophagitis, my GI insisted I return to PPIs. So I'm been using Aciphex for about 15 days. Surprisingly, I noticed that heartburn went away almost from day one.

Now two weeks later, notice that I'm getting same results that irritated the hell out of me when I first used PPIs. I take my dosage in the morning and about 4 or 5 in the afternoon, I notice that my throat starts to hurt and burn. I have more post nasal drip. Why does the PPIs help my heartburn but seem to make my LPR symptoms worse? I also get a nasty taste and smell in the afternoon. Also for the last few days, I notice that I'm getting heartburn breakthrough as the day and night goes on.

This seems to fly in the logic of being on PPIs. Could it be that the PPI only works for few hours and then my body starts to compensate by overproducing acid a few hours later? And if that's the case, I have a feeling the GI doc will recommend double dosing...but I'm afraid it's all just a vicious circle...

I'm still trying to find the answer myself. It can really be frustrating.

Hang in there and good luck.
