Living in a cardboard cow

I owed a min payment of £150 on Barclaycard last month, I called a couple of weeks ago to say I couldn't pay it as I had lost my self employed contract but was looking for a job, in the meantime I paid them £5 so it was at least something. Now the amount this month has gone up to £260 due to interest and I still can't pay it, and I called them to say this, they said a default notice would go out in 2 weeks if I didn't pay the whole amount. nothing I could do. Yesterday I got a well paid job, beginning in mid-late June. I rang Barclaycard to say I could pay £50 at the end of June when I will get 1 weeks pay then £400 at the end of July when I get a full months pay to bring me back under my limit. They wouldn't accept this and said I must pay it off in the next 2 weeks or I would be sent a default notice and my account will be passed to debt recovery. I can't get the money any quicker, as I can't start any earlier than the agreed start date, so what can I do, it seems very unfair!
My other credit card (Virgin) has accepted this - £50 in June and £400 in July, no probs as I have never been late with payments previously, but Barclaycard are being so hard even though I have explained circumstances and they will get their money (and all their fees) if they can just wait a couple weeks more.
