we have decided to close our one man business, before we go into debt. Where do i look for what i entitled to in the benefits system whilst i am looking for work, i dont want to go down that route, but have no choice, it also give me a chance to get my knee operated on that has needed doing for years. I dont know what benefits we can get etc, my wife works between 26-30 hrs per week, and is willing to increase her hours if she can. Any info gladly received
UK only thanks

It will depend on what class NI contributions you have been paying. We were caught out when we sold our business as our class 2 did not go towards JSA. They also look at the fact that you have made yourself unemployed by selling your business even if you were going bankrupt. Understand about your knee, I put my op off for 6 years whilst I struggled on, now retired, I have gone on the waiting list.
You will need to speak to the Job centre about entitlements.
Good Luck.
