Maybe I was delusional but when I took what I thought was a decent paying job I thought I would be living a better life, financially speaking. My salary is 75k a year, I'm single no kids. I have only been with this company for little less than 6 months but for some reason I'm basically living paycheck to paycheck. In full disclosure I did get the highest tier of insurance available with highest life insurance available which is only about $280 a month. I am saving about $1000 a month but still have some debt (I am slowly paying it down). My rent is only $950 a month and car and insurance $420 a month and utilities roughly $250.

These numbers are comparable to what I was spending when I made 25k less and although I haven't gone through my spending habits with a fine tooth comb I feel like I haven't changed those either.

Am I mistaken that a single guy making 75k sans kids should be in good financial shape? I pay all my bills and debts easily, yes, and I finally began really saving and these are all great things for me but I felt and still feel that I should have more resources for travel and basic home furnishings.

The reason for this question is because I'm thinking of asking my girlfriend to marry me and she is still in school so the thought of supporting her has me thinking about what shape I'm in financially. When I took the job with the big increase in salary I sure thought I'd have more. Advice? Thanks in advance for everyone's time.
