Decent digital camera for photography?

I want to get a digital camera set up for amateur photography. Soo i guess that means a decent camera and lens. I want something all around that can do a variety of situations (macro, action shots [so decent shutter speed?], and decent zoom) if i could hope for all that. Obviously I don't know very much so any information on products and what I should expect to spend would be great! thanks
