Considering that they regularly vote them selves a raise, this brought a smile to my face.

I cannot imagine why anybody would believe such nonsense. Not only are they making $165,200 per year, but they all make the rounds on the speaking circuit, which pays many times more than $165,200. They're all full of themselves, which is why they all have a book they try to peddle.

Considering people can make millions by doing nothing these days such as Kim Kardashian and many other reality T.V. "stars" then I guess you could say politicians are underpaid since the President only makes about a half-million dollars a year and he is the leader of the free world.

Kind of makes you think what would have happened if Obama would have gone into acting, which he kind of has.

The propaganda machine working overtime.

I can't imagine who would think THAT. I was reading about how many days they actually work (Congress) - they only work Tues.-Weds.-Thurs. of the weeks they do work. Mon. & Fri. are traveling days - they take entire MONTHS off for holidays. I sat down with a calendar when I read this and counted 103 day of actual work. They get full benefits, including the best health care insurance available and they retire (even if they only serve one term) with FULL pay and benefits & regular raises.
WOW, almost makes you want to run for office.

Then again, how much would it take to have your private life and every mistake you ever made hashed over and over again in the news? How much would you need to be compensated to be called various names and have all sorts of allegations made against you.
Never mind, I won't be running after all.

I would like to live on their salary for a couple of years, people who think that politicians are underpaid are several fri's short of a happy meal, their minds are in the dead zone, their elevators are stuck in the basement, they are ignorant, they can't read, liberals think that way.And to add the icing to the cake,6th graders could run this country better than any of those capitol hill stooges and for far less money!

People who think that try to use comparative wages of CEO's in big companies as a justification to raise politicians salary. They argue that being a politician is similar to being an executive in a large corporation. Those who argue against it say that an executives salary directly relates to how profitable a corporation is and that the comparison is with successful proffit driven large corporation's thus totally uwaranted and if you want to do a politicians salary that way you need to take into account the gargantuan trillions of dollars in debt the US is in and apply it appropriately as a reduction in salary to said politicians.

Either they're a politician themselves, have a close friend or family member who's a politician or just plain ignorant is why they would say that. God bless.

One could make the argument that given the time commitment, and the power and responsibility, politicians in high levels of office should make roughly what corporate executives make (i.e., $millions). One could also argue that if politicians were paid more, they would be less likely to seek out or accept bribery, "gifts," and other shady deals.
