You are supposed to greet the judge. Sometimes if you dont greet the judge, your points may go down. first of alll when you start a debate, you should begin like this, "good morning respected judges, teachers amd my dear friends...........................". Your points dont get downgraded if you wish the judge.
personally, i think you should state what team you are on (affirmative or negative) and start with a really good statement of rhetorical question which states your contention; and then perhaps say 'Well, judges and classmates we agree with this even though the opposing team has the clashing views.' i say try to make them feel included in the debate
