Personally, I believe that supernatural events did occur, but once the Lutz's story became so popular, they simply cashed in on the opportunity for some degree of fame by writing a book sequel w/ the first book's author and embellishing on the details as time went on.
However, I have little to no doubt that Ronnie DeFeo was told, forced, and assisted to kill his family by spirits, ghosts, demons, or whatever you'd like to call them.
Also, the patterns in the Lutz family's behavior compared to the DeFeo's is amazing. For example, after moving into High Hopes (the Amityville house), the Lutz children began to sleep facing down with their hands above their heads, in the same position that the DeFeo children were found dead. Not to mention George's startling resemblance to Ronnie.
Too many "coincidental" stories to be fiction. I'm a believer. But that's just my opinion.
Is anyone here well-versed on the topic? Please, share your thoughts, I'm curious to hear other people's opinions.
