Second up was the Turkish air flight that crashed in Amsterdam
Third were the three UK troops killed in Afghanistan.

is the order of these reports significant to their status in the public eye?
 
The one with the flashiest headline, which is typically the first one, and since in this case it's a specific individual (Ivan), then they're most likely focusing most on him.
