I've listened to some of the older stuff, and some Postal Service too.
Transatlanticism is definitely better. You can hear how they've matured.

And man is it fucken awesome. I just want them to come out with another album...NOW

A frienRAB band is potentially touring with them so I decided to check them out recently. I have to say Im not particularly impressed. Admittedly I only took a cursory listen but it seemed pretty formula indie rock to me...
