Will be up there in a couple of days for two weeks of riding. There are so many good roads in the area it does not matter which way you go the road you will travel will be great. I have some work to do to the cabin but riding is our main goal for the two weeks.

We were there a few years back when we lived in Hickory, NC. Don't want to sound like your mother but can't help mentioning something in the "not to do" category....don't take your eyes off the road while on the Dragon's Tail in particular. The week before we rode The Tail a couple on a Goldwing Trike were killed on a curve by a trailered boat that came into their lane. Something along these lines happens there every several years and not a year goes by without major mishaps that hurt people badly. Maybe I'm a sissy but I'll never ride The Tail on a weekend day again....too crowded....too many hot rodding fools....still dangerous enough on weekdays but with far fewer nuts on the road....IMHO.

Dont forget Cades Cove.

Little River Road (Old Hwy 73) between Townsend and Gatlinburg is a great road. You'll take it to get to Cades Cove. Just watch it early in the morning until the dew evaporates. Can be a bit mossy in the fine grooves of the asphalt. Slippery until it dries out.

Thanks for the info we're planning on doing the Tail during the week. I'm just doing it to say I did it, the wife will be on the back taking pics and I can check them out after I'm parked, lol.
Some of the pics on the Dragon websight show the problems you are talking about. I think what people need to understand is that this is a serious road that requires concentration not scenic day dreaming.

From time to time, you'll see "SLO" spray painted on the road. You'll probably want to make sure you're not going too fast around those bends.

I know this may sound like a strange question, but I have heard that some places offer a bike washing area and even supply what you need. Since we will be gone for a while I thought anyone who cared enough to offer this would deserve our buisness. Anyone here remember any such motels or resorts??

IF you are a HOG member you can get special desl from Best Western in most places (not all). Lots of biker friendly hotels/motels offer at least some towels to wipe off with but I can't really say I have found wash areas/supplies.
Probably most of the palces you are lookng at stying once you get down here will have some sort of accomidations for cleaning the scoot.
Suggest you give them a call first and simply ask!
