Dead animal (mouse?) in wall or heating vent. Decomposing body a health hazard?

Had a bad smell like a rotting mouse coming from one heating vent in the upstairs of the house. Brought in a vent cleaner who used a vacuum and a brush to clean out the duct from the opening in the room to the plenum but didn't find the carcass. Disinfected that duct as well. The smell only comes from the one vent. At this point we can't find the dead mouse so will likely let it finish rotting. However, we are wondering whether the smell coming out would be a health hazard or not? Would it be a health hazard after it was dried out when the heating is on and blowing air past it?
Also, anyone know how long the smell will last, that is, how long it would take for the mouse to fully decompose?
