It has been exzctly one week since my daughters surgery. Can any one tell us exactly what a "bone stimulator" is?

Thanks;)

It is a machine that is designed to help stimuate new bone growth. It is external. I understand that it has a limited time length that you can use it for-somewhere around 6 month to a year.

Mine was about the size of a beeper. It had two wire leaRAB that ended in paRAB that went about an inch away from each side of my spine. I could slip the unit in my pocket or loop the velcro of my brace strap through the little clip on it. It came with two rechargable batteries which I swapped out everyday. I wore it 24/7 except in the shower. I couldn't feel anything from it, but I was starting to show bone growth at only 6 weeks post op and was fully fused at 6 months. I had a long fusion and was at higher risk to not fuse, so my doctor and I were both thrilled!

It has to be prescribed and is rather expensive. My insurance wouldn't cover it because I had used up my allotment for durable medical supplies already, but the company was great and worked with me and ended up cutting the price by almost half!

How's she doing? Is her pain under control?

Tell her to walk as much as she can tolerate. It helps get blood circulating around the spine, which is essential to getting bone to grow.

Blessings,
Emily
