I've been dating someone in the army (I'm a civilian) for the past six months who is currently technically still married. He separated from his wife about a year and a half ago to two years ago; however she asked to not sign the divorce papers until she could find a job where she would be covered by her own insurance (since while married, she was covered under his). She now has found one and they are proceeding with the divorce. I was wondering if there could be any possible repercussions going through the divorce procedure if it is known he has been dating someone else, even though his soon to be ex-wife has been dating and living with another person for the past year in Texas (he is stationed in Georgia). Both agreed that they did not want anything from the other and would just sign the papers (I know he has to get them from the legal department on his base) and allow the court to process them. Is there anything negative financially or career-wise (for him) that could come from this situation? Also, if she decides that she does not want to just go separate ways, what kind of demands could she make during the divorce (since he has been collecting extra funds for the past two years due to his marital status even though they are separated)?
