Date Palm seed problem?

I have a date palm seed that has grown a root for about 2-3 weeks now and I still haven't seen any upward growth... Am I doing something wrong?

If you're exposing that one root to light, yes. Roots need to stay dark or they peter out. Plant it now in a good medium, like peat/perlite or coir/vermiculite or sand.
