Data Usage Questions - First Time User

Hey guys, I just got my first BB. It's a 8800. I have a few questions. I did some searches and didn't come up with any answers, but sorry if this is repeating a previous post. If anyone can answer them in advance, that'd be great, otherwise don't worry about it. I can always call Rogers (and stay on their terrible queue waiting system for an hour, haha).

1) Is there a way to check your usage as you go along in the month? (I was in the U.S. before and T-Mobile, you could check your cell phone usage any time)

2) I have the 4 MB plan for $25 dollars, am I getting ripped off? It's a month to month plan though, so no contract.

3) All I plan on doing with the data plan is check scores for NFL once a while, use the BB messenger and check e-mail (no attachments). Do you think that is enough?

4) Does anyone know how the GPS works in terms of billing? Like I guess it charges you A LOT of data?

I'm so confused about all this stuff, it's so hard to figure out data usage.

Hi welcome Im pretty new here myself. Found this thread that may help for your data usage monitoring

for what you are saying you would use 4mb sounds sufficient to me. $25 seems pretty reasonable as well..how much talk time are you getting with that ?

not sure about the gps as I use a stand alone gps unit which doesnt require any kind of data plan.

hope this helps a bit

not sure if 4mb is enough or not. I would go higher for the first month and then see how you did. As for the GPS, I heard Google Maps is a hog on data, but I do not use any of those programs so can not verify personally.

There is a BlackBerry application called Mini Monitor. I figure that link above was to it. It tracks your data usage. It isn't 100% accurate but appears to be close. Try it.
You could try Viigo for getting different web feeds. That is text only and quick links to the source page. Otherwise enjoy. Also call Rogers and ask for a couple of months of unlimited so you can figure out where your data usage fits.
If you have other questions just post them here.
