Data plan + BB 8320

Quick question, I have the 8320 and my wife has the 8100, we both have the full data plan but hardly ever use the internet on our phones, but we do use Yahoo IM and Google Talk along with BB Messenger. If we were to drop down from our full data plan, to where we can receive our emails still, would our Instant Messenger programs still work?

They will still work, but you could get charged for data. There have been some reports that you won't get charged for data for the email only plan

~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~for the messengers to work they do have a free add on as for email you can get just email for 9.99 a month if you you only do the free enabler you cannot do bb messenger but the other messengers will work just be sure to keep a text package
 
Bbm won't work with the bb addon service. I've tried that. The email only will give you access to email and on the pearl you can still have access to instant messenger because the client doesn't use data. On the 8320 it should work with the instant messenger clients as well. And rhe key word is should. There won't be additional data charges if it work. ~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~
 
Update:
I made the change to my wife's and I account with TMO, we dropped the full data service on both of our BB's, and switched to the email add on, we already have the full unlimited text/MMS/IM add on for our phones, and since the change our Yahoo IM and Google Talk work just fine. So we are happy
 
Well, its been a week now since we "downgraded' to the email addon option, and everything is still working. Even BB messenger still works. Only thing, i have been having these issues with Yahoo IM, it keeps loggin me out about once a day, and sometimes I send messenges and the other person doesnt get them which is annoying. I have removed the app, and then re-downloaded Yahoo IM 2.0 and still get these issues
 
It may be due to the plan change never know.. Try it for a week or two and if the problems continue, then you know its due to the plan change.
