Data loss and backup card failure - any advice ??

Hi. After previously losing data from a heavily used T3, I bought a Proporta MMC backup card and use it regularly. Unfortunately my T3 recently had two unexplained catastrophic crashes. When I came to reinstall from the memory card I got this message :

"DatMgr.c, line:7399,DmWrite:DmWritecheck failed." and a forced reset.

I have lots of valuable data on this card - I would be very grateful if anyone knows if or how I can salvage it.

Many thanks.

Unfortunately, the only way to even have remotely to recovered this information is if you had a backup to the backup. I must admit to you that the only thing you can do with this experience is to chaulk it up as a learning experience and to prevent it from happening in the future.
As a person who runs a lot of applications and information through the expansion card, I have learned what is safe to save on my card (to prevent information loss), what is risky to save on on my card, and the extreme importance of backup, backuP, backUP, bacKUP, baCKUP, baCKUP, bACKUP, BACKUP!
This is a topic that has been discussed frequently here. Please refer to this thread for further backup tips:

Unfortunately, my closing comment is a well known saying -

Thanks... I'll put it down to experience (and my over-reliance on an electronic life)..
I think I will have to get a more sophisticated backup strategy as I obviously had too much faith in the card.

Try moving the data from the SD card and onto a PC and then move it to another card and see if you can restore from that.

You might have to go purchase an SD card reader for about $19 bucks but it may be worth a try?

hi guys,

of all the add-on gadgets a pda user can acquire, expensive as they can be, a cheap (but good quality) card reader should be very much at the top of the list...ok, just below an SD card I suppose.....a full SD backup is just plug-and-play! peace of mind for $20 or less.....:)

Also, it's now possible for the PDA itself to be the card reader with software like Softick's Card Export II, which emulates a removable mass storage device on your PDA through a usb connection to your PC/Mac. I use it and it works great on my T|E.

A seperate card reader is still a must-have peripheral though for obvious reasons.

Just to feedback : I got a card reader yesterday and all my data was accessible from the card.

I'm grateful for the advice which saved a lot of data re-entry ! Thank you.

Just to let you know that I accept beer for payment.....:D

Glad it worked.

I would suspect that the proporta card is a Sandisk in disguise and would recommend either a Toshiba or panasonic - personal preferences.
