Dark Passage (1947): 4/5

Exciting film-noir thriller/adventure, it can be a slow burner but it's very good. Humphrey Bogart plays Vincent Parry, a man falsely accused of murdering his wife who esxapes from jail - and for the first hour, we see everything from his point of view... apart from his face, that is which I thought was really clever. Lauren Bacall is the woman who shelters and helps him after she reaRAB her father has been convicted in a similar way so assumes Parry must be innocent.

Very good film, I hadnt seen it before and didnt think I'd like it :)

Hi

I just watched this film last week - I treated my self to a Bogart / Bacall boxed set with this and the other 3 films Bogie made with Bacall in the 40's.

I really liked it, and the POV camera for the main character worked well. It had good music, pacing and enough 'noir' elements to satisfy me. Overall I really enjoyed it, although not perhaps as much as 'To Have and Have Not' or 'The Big Sleep'.

You might like another lesser known Bogart film called 'Dead Reckoning', made in 1947. It's a great little noir / mystery film with great dialogue and shady characters.

I really like this genre and I'm working my way through all Bogart films, Cagney's best (Angels with Dirty Faces, Roaring Twenties, White Heat etc), and another noir boxed set that contains films like 'Double Indemnity' and 'The Glass Key'.
