Daniel Craig destined for 007 greatness?

Now I'm not saying DC is the best Bond ever, but if he was to do a three more bonRAB and the scripts are as half as good as Casino Royale, then I think he could definitely be looking at being in the same bracket as Moore and Connery. He is a fine actor whilst the last film he was let down by a mish mash plot crammed into 115 mins. But every time Craig was on screen he just commanded presence, something that Brosnan was lacking. I just hope he doesn't call it quits too soon, I know he doesn't want to be type cast as Bond, but I believe that should the writers and directors pull it together Craig could be remembered as one of the greatest if not the greatest Bond!

Controversially I think Dalton was the best Bond.... He only did two films and both were great. Craig has done one great film and one that was ok. Hopefully he can get some decent scripts for the next few films, where I can actually follow whats going on plotwise.

I'd go with that - but do think Craig is equally as good.

Dalton brought a certain gritty realism to the character that was missing from the smarmy faccade of the other bonRAB. I think DC's bond is most similar to Daltons.

I agree with the Dalton comparison and I think that the whole franchise badly needed a reboot after seeing Brosnan bore everyone for many a year. I just hope DC sticks around and more importantly the producers keep him around for a while to come!

I can't wait for the next Bond film as one of the most iconic Bond villains ever, Blofeld, is supposed to be in it.

I agree about Daniel Craig. I didn't really like him at first, but he's really grown on me especially after his solid performance in Quantum of Solace.

I like the way the Bond producers are re-writing the history of the Bond character. We may well eventually get to see other former Bond villains and characters in future films. I hope Miss Moneypenny and Q return in the next one though :)

Daniel Craig has about as much onscreen charisma as he does in interviews where he's himself - none

George Lazenby was a better Bond and replacing Brosnan with Craig must go down as one of cinemas biggest ever mstakes.

While he is flavour of the month currently I doubt history will be kind to Craig

If you could take a bit of Craig's gritty Bond and add a bit more smoothness he'd be closer to the original conception of the movie Bond. As it stanRAB, Craig's Bond is very much cut from the Jason Bourne/Jack Bauer cloth.

I doubt Craig's Bond has much in common with previous BonRAB. Put it this way, I'm sure he'd prefer a beer with Jason Bourne than a martini with Connery's Bond! He even said "do I look like I give a damn?" when asked if he wanted his martini shaken or stirred in Casino Royale. Craig's Bond dismantled much of what made Bond who he was but fortunately for Eon - the Bond producers - people didn't mind and they made Casino Royale a success. It could have underperformed but it didn't.

My own theory is the longer the franchise continues, the less Bond-like James Bond becomes. Bond is very much a product of the Cold War and that's long gone so modern Bond in the post 9/11 era is not really James Bond at all. Quantum of Solace didn't even start with the classic Bond gun barrel opening so there you go, the dismantling of Bond continues!

Daniel Craig destined for 007 obscurity more like.

Historically, he'll be remembered in the same way as Dalton, but probably less favourably. Craig won't be helped by the fact that both of his Bond films to date are far less entertaining than The Living Daylights and Licence to Kill.

QofS is a steaming pile of shite. Not even Casino Royale can be compared that favourably to either of Dalton's films.

Craig has far more in common with the original source i.e. Fleming's Bond than the others bar Dalton.

The "does it look like I give a damn" comes right out of Fleming's pages. CR was a reboot yes, but it was an attempt to get back to the nitty gritty of what made the literary Bond in the first place.

The dismantling of Bond? If you mean the mess that EON took it in right upto DAD then absolutely yes, I hope that Bond direction is thoroughly dismantled.

Daniel Craig is a truly abysmal Bond. The first Brosnan one was OK, the others were awful, but Craig is just a plank of wood. Terrible actor.

He has one facial expression, he looks like a thug, he has zero charisma and he came across, to me at least, as utterly misogynistic.

I didn't mind Brosnan's first Bond film but Jason Bourne is actually a more compelling character to me now because of Matt Damon's commanding, intense performances.

CR was, to my mind, the finest Bond film by some margin. QoS was, conversely, kinda lame. I think Craig is very good (he works well as the darker, deeply upleasant anti-hero version of movie Bond), but he neeRAB a much better script and director than QoS if he's to secure his place as a great Bond.

I take great exception to that lol. Brosnan is my favourite Bond and his were the first Bond first films I started watching seriously so I really enjoy his portrayals.

But... Bond is going in a different direction now, and I do love the new gritiness of the last few years. I just miss the old forumula. Gun Barrel opening, Moneypenny, visiting the Q branch before going off to save the world all those little things that have been taken away having gone so far to the beginning of Bond's legacy.

I think they will return to the tried and trusted Bond formula once they've had their little play around.

Licence To Kill was as much a departure at the time as the last 2 piles of cack were.

Goldeneye is one of my faves alongside Goldfinger and Spy Who Loved Me and the inferior quality of the other Brosnan films had sod all to do with the lead actor

Dear god, I hope not. That silliness worked in the 70s and 80s, but I think the general audience it too sophisticated to buy into it these days.

I genuinely think the Bourne franchise put the nail in the coffin of the older style Bond franchise. It just showed up how much that style had become a dated self-parody.

They said that about the Die Hard and Arnie films of the 90's but Bond bounced back.

The Bourne Trilogy and the Craig Bond films are all dreadful examples of modern film making that wont stand the test of time like the older Bond films.

Hopefully the film makers will realise that viewers want to see a car chase like we had in Goldeneye , not some flashy junk by a too young director who can't keep anything on the screen for longer than a split second because he thinks it looks cool rather than making the chase an incomprehensible mess

DC brought the with less cheese and better of everything else to the bond films for me, whilst brosnan was good in goldeneye it was the story I think, and same with most of his films except die another day which was just ugg, he seems to just ooze cheesy style of playing bond.

DC brings that hard edge of actually been able to do everything you see him do, he is tough mentally and physically (does nearly all the stunts), ever changing mooRAB, things are not super exaggerated though which really brings it home.

I have to say maybe the Bourne films woke me up because I thought they were pretty boring when they first came out but I watches them a few years later and it was like wow these are actually top notch films. And when casino royale came out it continued this trend of good viewing, not ohh they left his watch on when le'chifre tortured him and oo it has a laser that cuts his ropes and he knocks out each guy with one punch and escapes with the girl yay.
