I've been trying to figure out why my '99 STS is randomly shutting off while I'm driving regardless of speed (10 mph to 80mph) or gear. It also has problems starting 8 out of 10 times.
I've been told different things from dealers and mechanics:
cam and crank sensors (replaced)
fuel pump problem (ran test, no problem)
fuel injectors (cleaned)
low oil safety cut off (bulls***)
When I turn the power on by turning the key slightly, the dash may or may not light up. If the dash doesn't light up, the car usually doesn't turn on (although sometimes it will). If the dash does light up, the car turns on but usually sounds like its struggling to start.
I'm going to end up crashing into a pole or flying off an exit on the expressway if I don't fix this...many close calls.
I want to go to a mechanic with some sort of lead in order to spend the least about of money as possible instead of have them mess around for days replacing useless parts.
Has anyone heard of such a problem and know how to fix it?
