As for unopened dairy lasting - I've often had homogenized super heavy
whipping cream coagulate into thick pudding-like consistency when it's
3 weeks or more after its expiration date. I generally throw it out
when it's like that. I can't recall ever smelling it first - if
there isn't any liquid left, it's gone to the garbage.
