D3 basics please? And how do I use the Nikon SB-800 AF flash? ?

I'm borrowing a friend's D3, since I've always used Canon cameras my knowledge of Nikon is very limited. How can I set a higher shutter speed? (I will be shooting in low light, and did figure out how to change the ISO) I need to know the specific buttons...Nikon D3 for dummies if you will. Also, how can I set the SB-800 to flash only once?
