I have a 30 gallon tank with a 100 gallon filtration system. The tank is not cycled yet and has 4 small goldfish in it as well as some plants (the tank is also full of gravel, decorations and all that). The problem is that my tank hasn't cycled yet; I've had it for almost 4 weeks and have been doing daily water changes to keep the ammonia from reaching 8.0 every day... I went to a fish store recently and the guy there told me to get another filter (the tank used to only have a 30 gallon filter; now it's a cumulative of 100), dump a whole bottle of bacteria in there, and just let the tank cycle. I'm really worried that my fish won't survive the cycle; they seem to be doing fine now, but if the ammonia keeps going up and I don't change the water like the clerk recommended, the levels could be fatal for the fish before the tank cycles... What should i do? Please help!
