Cycling tank, Marina filter?

We have a 60litre Marina tank that came with a slime carbon filter. The guy at the store was unclear, do i still need to cycle the tank of is the idea that this does it for you?

I am a beginner so grateful for nice answers and 10 point will be given by me for the best.

LOL that should have been slim line not slime. My keyboard is a bit naff.
