cycling my old fish tank?

im just bought a 55 gallon fish tank from petsmart yester day for 59.99with the hoods when i got it it wasent in a box or anything didn't come with a filter or nothing so its not brand new (it had cobwebs in side) but the thing is i was wondering if i could take my 20 gallon filter and put it inside my 60 gallon filter will it add the bacteria into the 55 gallon
and i did not let my filter cartige dry out im useing it in my feeder fish tank

Yeah it will seed the bacteria you need to cycle it. But make sure to feed the bacteria, either with the waste of fish you've got in there, or with liquid ammonia.. or else they'll starve...
