Cutting a singlet (tank top) ?

Ok, the other day at the markets I bought a "god save mcqueen" shirt. I absolutely LOVE it. However, the front of the shirt is not low cut and it's see through so it looks odd when I wear a singlet underneath. I was wondering, will I regret it if I cut the singlet so it's lower at the front and then fold the fabric back and sew it? It's just that I paid 23 bucks and I don't want it sitting in my cupboard, so will it work or not? Thanks x
