I was cut tonight , by a 5 inch fixed blade hunting knife. I wasn't cut by the blade , I was cut by the ridges/grooves ontop. It just tore the skin , and cut deep. I got the bleeding to stop and didn't have to go to the Emergency Room. I don't know that much about cut wounds that involve knives , so I was wondering what kind first aid products I would need to attend to the wound?
What I have done so far is applied alcohol , neosporin and just put a band-aid on it .
Is there a product out there that would stop the stinging sensation?
Should I buy something better to protect it other than band-aids?

The cut is on my left thigh , about 4inches below my hip.
