Customers complaining in a fast food restaurant?

Okay, so at Hungry Jacks (Australian subsidary of the burger king corporation) customers will get extremely annoyed with you easily, i'll admit we are occasionally really slow. What can I do that will make the customers go away and leave me alone, without getting me fired. Just earlier today I was visciously yelled at by an elderly man, because he had to wait 95 seconds instead of 90 seconds. Seriously, what can I do?

I used to work in retail and would often experience a lot of the same, so I came up with a great trick.

What I would do is be really, and I mean REALLY polite. So polite that it's verging on sarcasm. They hate it, but what can they do about it? They can't complain about you being polite and apologising, can they?

"I am truly sorry for inconveniencing you sir, I will strive to ensure it never happens again. You, the customer, are all that matter to us here at Hungry Jacks..." etc.

They really, really, hate it, and it used to make my day as they stormed off.
