Hello all,

I am a potential new customer for Bell TV. I have already bought a 9242 separately at $600 with no contract. I plan on getting a 9241 along with it, and want to purchase it combined with an offer on a 1 yr contract. I also don't need a professional installation. I called 2 CSR's to see what they are offering for new customers. (I plan on getting the Digital Extra Pack)

CSR #1
-$100 credit for early 9242 purchase (for the old overpriced cost @ $600)
-$100 credit for 9241 purchase (@ $500 cost) (called the Superbowl Special)
-$25 credit for using Bell.ca
-$10 credit/month over 12 months = $120 credit

CSR #2
-$100 credit for 9241 purchase (@ $500 cost) (called the Superbowl Special)
-$25 credit for using Bell.ca
-told me I was REQUIRED to get a professional installation at $100 since it's a 1yr contract

So obviously, #1 gave me the much better deal. Are his offers legit? Are they the best? Can't they get me offers/credits for the movie packages (e.g. first 3 months)? Would I be applicable to talk to retentions, or is that for customers that are cancelling? I just don't know if I am getting a good deal or not. Any help is really appreciated!

Cheers

problem is their prices change every minute depending on who you speak to. If you rent a receiver from they they REQUIRE it to be professionall installed to ensure the system is grounded properly etc etc. Load of crap if you ask me but .

You pretty much have to be ready to sign up when you call and negotiate a deal then and there. Good luck

When I bought my 9242 end of Dec. 2008, the programming credit was $300. and that was on their website until Jan 16 when they launched the new receivers (ironically not mentioned on the newly updated website as to the model and feature changes, only pricing change has been reflected).

So $100. programming credit on that is now $200. short of what was before Jan 16. However, a friend has confirmed that the programming credit should be in accordance to the date of purchase and pre-registration, and not activation of the unit / ordering service / installation date.

Futureshop has been selling 9242 out right for $399. for a few days now (see the sub forum for the HD PVR for the clearance thread). So you might consider price matching / returning if you could, or try to get the $300. programming credit. (where did you buy it?).

9241 should have $100. programming credit, but unless you are setting up 2 separate accounts, you can only enjoy this programming credit on the first unit (typically the one you set up w/ the store under pre-registration).

$25. credit I think only if you order through their website, but since you have already bought your receivers, I don't know if you can still order through them, I think that order means ordering receivers and service, not just service.

I have talked to more than 1 rep and they all told me that the $10. for 12 months credit is for rental only, which the website is not clear on. I haven't been able to get that credit as I bought my receivers.

With a 1 year contract, installation of first receiver is $99. online at Bell.ca, but Bell stores told me that it is $75. I don't know why there is a diff. in price on that. My friend said he read on this forum that someone said that 9242 must be professional install, but I'm not sure if it is true. 2 year contract provides free installation on the first receiver, including the 9242 (which I got). Installation including dish, parts, and labour.

The 2 months free promo of Premium Movies has been around before and after the Jan 16 change over. I have asked and was given that, and only need to cancel it before the billing date before 2 months is over to avoid further billing of that. It is not 3 months. My friend's friend just activated and was not offered this free promo on the phone, even though he asked if there is any promos or offers (but didn't point specifically to this though). I guess you have to ask for it, and they will not automatically offer you this.

Not sure how you can talk to Retention if you are not an existing customer, it doesn't make sense. Some people on this forum got 40% off each monthly bill, and still get the usual standard promo and credits, but your mileage might vary. You have to call before you activate to get any offers, because once you agreed to a contract you are fixed to it.

Bell is by far the worst company I have dealt with (I thought Fido was worst) in terms of consistency of the answers, from their corp stores, to the call centres, it's just absolutely horrible and hair pulling. I spent months pouring over this site and finding out info, and all info seems to conflict with others. I think nobody knows all their business rules, and everyone knows something that is not true, and been spreading it.

The one thing that seems to make a difference is that on cell phone forums elsewhere, the wrong info got corrected very quickly, and you usually know who's the authority in giving that kind of answers (and some work inside the industry). On this forum, it seems to struggle to get to the bottom of facts, and that's a bit frustrating.
