I've been watching Ouran Host High this week and was mildly surprised to discover that this show was in full screen. It's funny, because it seems to be increasingly rare to see anime aired full screen.

What other anime in the last 2-3 years were broadcast in full screen?

Sgt. Frog (2004) is still airing in fullscreen, even six years later.

The sides simply just contain the show's logo.

And Gintama (2006) has made jokes about the fact they haven't gone 16:9 yet.

I'm not sure, but I think Bakugan is in full screen.

I'd imagine that ever since Pokemon went widescreen HD (recently had it's 40th HD episode), every anime currently being made should be in widescreen by now. XD

No. Bakugan is in Widescreen. Unsure if New Vestroia is in HD though, since the original series wasn't HD (just in widescreen). We probably won't know until it airs in Japan, which'll occur in a couple weeks.

Sazae-san is probably still in full screen.

I mean, they're already the only animated series in the world that still uses traditional cel animation, I figure they still animate in the same 4:3 format as well.

Huh... I didn't know that. On Cartoonnetwork.com, all of the episodes are either in 4:3 or stretched badly (they seem to have issues with a lot of shows on their video player). Anyway, I'm glad to hear that!

Yeah, the only one I currently watch is Gintama, although Dragon Ball Kai is in 4:3 in its true form. I love the song in Gintama featuring the line about being the only anime still in 4:3.

Sazae-san has gone widescreen and HD for a while now. And Bakugan did air in HD during its original broadcast (as well as Japan's upcoming airing of New Vestroia), but Nelvana just crops it to 4:3.
