What is your opinion on this, is it good advice or do you think it is better to have the better tyres on the steering/driving wheels of a small hatchback? I am wondering whether I should have my sons changed to the front now the weather is not so good and the new tyres have run in on the back. Your advice would be welcome.

your right always put new tires on rear.....always.......because if ur front wheels slip u can easily correct it....if ur rear wheels slip ur in a ditch or dead.....manufacturers

On a front wheel drive vehicle all of the power is on the front wheels. Also as with most cars front or rear drive, 70 percent of the braking force is applied to the front wheels. Even though it is best to put 4 new wheels on all at the same time, when you are buying 2 put them on the front. and then look for the best two out of the remaining 4 and put those on the back. then get the best one out of the remaining two and save them for a temporary spare. Or save them both. A doughnut spare is good for only 300 miles. A full size spare is probably good for more than 500.

Always buy new tyres in pairs and put the new tyres on the driving wheels. So front wheel drive, put 'em on the front and vice versa.
