Hi Spineys,

For all of you who have had a microdiscectomy, are you pain free? Has this surgery been the cure to your back pain?

I am going on 4 years of back pain. I have had (2) micro-d surgeries in 2 1/2 years (for a large herniated disc that was resting on a nerve). I can't sit, stand or be in the same position for too long, without being in pain. I get to a level that the burning pain is so bad that it makes me even breathe a bit heavier.

I am so curious if the pain ever goes away, once we have all had a major problem with our backs.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Hi,

I had my first back surgery about 15 years ago and have never been pain free.
Not sure that any one gets totally pain free.

I had spinal fusion in 2006 and still have burning nurabness in both legs. The surgery did stabilize my spine but didn't get rid of the leg pain. At this point I guess I just have to live with it.

Lilly,

Can't say 100% but it is as close to 100. I had MicroD and can say I am pain-free up to a point 18 months (Oct 2006) and counting. I do however experience some discomfort now and then when I do laundry when carrying 3-4 heavy loaRAB of clothing and feel a little discomfort in the incision site. Other than that it's alnmost non-existence but I do try to walk and do exercise to strentghten my back as much as I can.

The discomfort make me even more aware of what I lift and how much I can lift. I can lift my 20+ lbs toddler tho and he is sort of semi-heavy.
