I've just enlisted in the Navy as a CTI (Linguist) and am concerned about the advancement schedule. I understand that once A school is completed I will automatically get advanced to E4, which isn't of much added value to me given that I joined as an E3 already and pretty much all E3s only wait 6 months for promotion to E4 anyhow. The issue comes in with the long length of the required linguist schooling. I could be in for as much as 2 years (if I choose the language I want) and ONLY get an E4?? This costs me a lot, seemingly. If I go with an "easier" language like Spanish, then schooling is only 1 year, plus a more rapid advancement (in both pay and privileges).
Can anyone who's experienced out there share any insight about this conundrum? Again, the language I REALLY desire will take me 2 years to complete and I will be left behind! Eek!
