Criminal trial where the offender got a slap on the wrist for something really bad?

I'm doing a persuasive speech on why criminals need to be given harsher punishments....Could anyone provide me with an instance when a criminal was convicted of doing a horrible crime but the judge gave him or her a slap on the wrist?
basically i want a story where someone like molested a little girl or something of that nature and got off easy

Canberra, Australia: A man gets two months' weekend detention for raping a 15-year-old girl (age of consent in Australia 16 but in this case it was established as rape not statutory). Worst part? The man lives only a couple of streets away from the girl. She sees him during the week.
