...transaction device? A close member of my family is facing possible charges. There is a warrant pending and he is planning on turning himself in. There are 2 charges of "using a computer to commit a crime" and "Misuse of a Financial Transaction device." The details on how the warrant came about are as follows: he had a balance due on his account at a university so they would not release his transcripts to his new school. He made a payment to the university online which was returned for closed account. He was unable to pay the university balance off and they turned it into collections. Now they have also turned it over to the police stating that he committed a crime by doing this. He has a previous felony of "Uttering and Publishing." We are hoping for a delayed sentence with the opportunity to pay off the debt within 30 days, with hopes that the charges will be dropped. Can anyone tell me if this is likely to happen? He is a single father of 3. His children will go into foster care if he goes to prison. He is one semester from his Bachelors degree. He has no prior or current violent, sexual or drug related charges. We are in Michigan...if anyone could give advice, it would be much appreciated!
We can have the debt paid off in 30 days.
There are no federal charges.
