Cricket to Launch Android Phone

I've seen images with both Kyocera and Sanyo on the phone. I don't know which one the phone is going to be shipping with. I've only seen Kyocera on video, but Sanyo on pictures, which could be photoshopped.

I agree. I won't complain about MSRP being at $249, but I sure do hope there are rebates, either instant or mail-in, that would make the total cost cheaper.

I'm a little confused by your statement.

Most phones are sold under MSRP for Cricket, if I remember correctly. There are usually some type of incentives or rebates available. MSRP is usually much higher than the cost of the phone.

My brother had an XTC and it seemed like a pretty good phone. I had a Wild Card and it was pretty nice. I think the weakest part about the phone was the software and not the hardware.

Well we don't need to worry with the software as much now that it's running Android. :)

It looks like most of the bugs got fixed because the newest video makes it look like the phone is running smoothly. Hopefully they'll continue tweaking it and after launch if there are any problems hopefully they will come up with a fix for them.

Ok, this guy at a cricket store said, for example, now that there are not going to be giving months free, the phones are going to cost exactly the same for new and current customers, so if this is the case we should expect that maybe the phone will cost $169 - 219 wich is the suggested retail price by kyocera and not the $299 price point on the Cricket leaked pix. Right now for example the Samsung Stunt is $49.99 and is expected to drop to $29.99 after all the new changes take effect.

O and the Zio does have the Sanyo logo on Cricket's website, buuuut if you go to kyocera.com they have it on there and not on sanyo.com. Im thinking they will just slap the sanyo logo on there to make it LOOK better.

Yeah, Kyocera did say $169 - $219. I'm guessing it'll be closer to the $219. The MSRP that I recently heard is $249, which is $50 less than the first leaked MSRP of $299. So, I'm guessing there will only be rebates and no further discount because of the free month being taken away. I guess we can expect the phone to cost around $200. That's what I've been telling friends and family. I told them there might be a rebate or something, so it might initially cost more, but the end cost will be around $200 or so. Hopefully that's right.

It's been said that the phone is made by Sanyo several times, but I don't like how they put the Kyocera logo on some of the images. They should move it to the Sanyo site and not Kyocera. Maybe that would help some of us to relax a little bit. :p

Im sure the hardware would be sufficient. Lets hope there is enough interest in this phone for some android rom developers to want to build something for this phone.

Also, keep in mind that when these phones are "rooted", an exploit of some sort is utilized. If none exist/are found, then no custom roms can be installed. An example is the CLIQ XT where nobody has found a way to root it.

I'd like to hope an official update to froyo would come for this phone at some point. It's much better than eclair.
