Cricket in Los Angeles?

I have been told by many Cricket reps that Cricket is working very hard to open up in the Los Angeles region. It was said that they are trying to get the licensing. Anyone else hear this? My wife and I use Cricket here in Portland and we love it. We will be moving to Los Angeles in August and would love to continue Cricket usage. I sure hope so...

Actually MetroPCS is opening up in LA this summer. They have very similair plans to cricket. In fact I wouldn't be suprised if the two companies merged in a year or two and began to dominate the market.

My last year in the Marines (2006) Cricket really took off in San Diego. I would love to see it in L.A.

Also ever since Cricket was announced in here in Portland, OR it has done tremendously. Every time I would attempt to get setup with Cricket there was always a line. Even still... Viva la Cricket! :clapping:

Ya there is no doubt cricket is amazing. I love how ppl talk sh*t on cricket in san diego. I have it and it gets wayyyyy better service than cingular and comparable service to verizon or sprint. Only place that sux is rancho santa fe but, who goes there ;)

Probably not! There are no CMRS licenses available for that market, and it's extremely unlikely that an existing licensee would part with one of their licenses.

However, as others pointed out, metroPCS does have 20 MHz of spectrum for the greater Los Angeles area (10 MHz PCS C5-block plus 10 MHz AWS D-block) and is supposed to launch service this Spring.

Since Cricket and metroPCS usually don't compete in the same market (with Merced and Modesto being the only exceptions to date), it is possible that they will allow customers to roam on each others' networks. It is also possible (and would make a lot of sense due to economics of scale) that the two companies merge at some point in the future and corabine their license holdings and service offerings.

Even if they don't merge and don't forge a nationwide all-inclusive roaming agreement, it's still quite possible that metro and Cricket will roam off of each other in CA, seeing that Cricket kind of has metro surrounded (metro has LA/Bakersfield and SF Bay/Sacramento and Cricket has San Diego and the central valley).

cricket tried to merge with metro a couple years ago. metro walked away from the table. unfortunately i just don't think it's in the carRAB. a roaming agreement would suit the companies perfectly. not just for CA, but since between metro and cricket nearly every major city in the us will be covered within the next couple years, having a roaming agreement would benefit both companies tremendously
