Cricket Broadband In El Paso TX does this mean???

when cricket first launched evdo and there were about 2-3 markets and no prl for other markets, i was beta testing prls created by beezlewaxin to try to use evdo in my market...on some of the prls i did have an evdo icon on my mogul, but i could not connect via evdo...that is because cricket had no equipment in my market (at least none that was pwered up)...

your phone can say evdo all day, but that does not mean that you are actually authenticating and that you can connect via evdo...

the fact that you say your phone stays on "EV" while on a call throws up flags...your call can only go through on 1x, not on evdo...

sorry to tell you, but if the evdo launch was indeed done on aws spectrum then no way, no how are you getting it without a triband phone.

I got a text from cricket today saying broadband Internet is going to be available in el paso texas for the pc or laptops. Now since we r getting this does it mean that we will be abile to get high speed Internet on our phones as well instead of the slow wap Internet that we have

Check out this screenshot of the software version and prl version on my Q. Here is some SID info.

And here is a brief Youtube clip of my phone doing OTA. Notice the EV icon throughout the call. It does this with all calls, not just OTA calls. Here is a 611 call. Please let me know what you think.

i was not doubting that your phone had the ev icon the whole time you were on a call, i was saying that it makes me doubt you are actually getting evdo at all...

if you were actually on evdo, your phone would have to switch to 1x to send/receive calls/texts...

cricket does not have any voip via evdo connection, so you are definitely on 1x when you are making a call...the fact that the ev icon remains while on a call is what makes me think that you are not actually on evdo...

does the ##DEBUG code work on your phone? if so, it would pay to see if you are authenticated...

i would like nothing more than to see you guys get evdo, but if it's aws only then you are not going to get it without a tri-band phone.

I have my motorola q on Jump, going on 2 1/2 yrs. now. I mainly have the Verizon monster loaded with the settings altered to get pix and internet. I tried and tried to get all the extras working on a Generic monster to no avail so I gave up.

I figured it was high time to give it another shot with the arrival of EVDO in our market. Usually when I make a call, the phone will switch into 1x mode, however, I flashed the generic again yesterday and noticed that when I make calls using the generic, it stays on EVDO. Any ideas as to why this is happening, or is everyone experiencing this today?

i got the text message as well in EPT. The only problem is that i still have no EV icon showing up...LOL...and my HDR still says 2=failed in diag mode...LOL and OTA and got PRL 38537.

Now if anyone from EP is getting Ev icon and speed please post your SPC settings and also if possible let us know what your phone is labled as on your account.

I have heard if your is labeled as a CPE then you may not get Ev, which might be my case?

##debug doesn't work unfortunatley. I just reverted back to the Verizon monster to get the internet working because I wanted to verify that my internet still worked (I recently called Jump and asked them to make sure my phone listed was a RAZR and not a Q. The rep said she refreshed my account, but I don't know if she re-entered my phone as a RAZR into the system). I have been in EVDO markets before, but my phone always switched into 1x mode during any and every phone call. The same was true of using the internet. I think this was always with the 1050 prl, but I can't be certain. With this 1013 prl, it stays on EV during a call. While I certainly trust everyone's Cricket knowledge, this still has me scratching my head.

Earlier today the EV icon remained while I was using the internet and streaming some music. This was after I reloaded the Verizon monster. The speed wasn't there, but the icon was. Unfortunately I have been unable to duplicate this.

Oh well. Anyone successfully tether with a Samsung Myshot?

All right. Now I'm getting mad. Because of the arrival of EVDO in the El Paso market, I have a renewed interest in getting it to work on my phone, whatever phone I decide upon. Some of my earlier posts in this thread are an attempt to get EVDO running on my Q. A variety of responses from knowledgeable Cricket veterans advised me to give up the chase, so I decided to look into the tri band phones that Cricket offers.

During a trip to the local Walmart, I decided not to purchase either of them and opted to wait it out. Somebody will eventually come into the shop and sell one of these phones so that I can start hacking one. Last night I ran into a couple of frienRAB that just so happen to have Cricket. They also have tri band phones, one a UTStarcom CDM7126, the other a Samsung Myshot (R430c, so I know it's tri band). Neither one of them was picking up an EVDO signal so, with their permission, I performed an OTA on each of them. This didn't help either of them but my Vogue still had no problem picking up the EVDO signal. Sooooo. To sum it up, 2 Cricket tri band phones that can't receive EVDO even after the OTA and one non Cricket, non tri band phone picking up the EVDO signal.

Any Cricket dealers in the El Paso market wanna shed some light on this for me? Thanks in advance.

i think oficialy it start on the 11th of dec. so we just have to wait and see what hapenRAB i hope that evdo becomes avalaible will make everything so much better

I think I'm running the 1013 prl. At least that's what I pulled OTA on my Touch after the arrival of EVDO in our market. As for the internet, I haven't had time to start cracking on my Q with the generic monster. It may turn out to be another waste of time, but I want nvm access that, up to this point, has been limited. Depending on the firmware loaded, certain folders/files don't seem to exist. On some firmwares, most folders exist and most files in these folders are even editable. Not the ones I need of course. Some folders are locked out. This is designated by a circle with a red line through it. But this isn't a folder that contains the files that I need, so that doesn't concern me.

What I'm trying to accomplish is posted in this thread which talks about getting Cricket EVDO working on your flashed/hacked Verizon Q.

Thanks for the reply 3. So does this mean that Cricket doesn't have a tri band, EVDO capable phone? If so, is my only hope in this bumsuck El Paso market a data card?

But el paso is not a Tri-band area, not to contrudict what your saying though.

If that was the case then everyone's phones in el paso that are dual band they wouldn't work but on roaming.

@nefiwashere: This could be true...keeping fingers crossed
