Credit History Mix-up. What to do?

I ran my credit report through Equifax and discovered that my credit report is mix-up with my 2 brothers. I found out because I want to get a car loan and wanted to see anything before hand. And boy I did. My report show 7 civil judgements of which none are mine. My name but also their names as AKA's. My social is there but their's also as AKA's. Even one of my brother's wife's is listed as mine. Job info, etc. I doubt anyone of them could have been using my name. The only problem I see is that our names are very similar and the real difference in the social security numbers is a number, ex: 123-45-6793, 123-45-6795 and 123-45-6798. These are not real #'s but you see 3, 5 and 8 could get interchanged. What to do? Thanks.

You need to contact Equifax by phone, followed up with a letter in writing explaining the error and telling them you will provide any id they need. Also contact Trans Union and the other popular credit reporting agency and request a copy of your credit report. You may have the same problem with them as well but you need to straighten this out immediately. If you have a printed credit report from Equifax, there is a portion on there for reporting errors. Good luck.

This is a common problem with relatives, especially siblings. All you have to do is contact the credit agency and let them know which items are incorrect.

In addition to contacting Equifax, you'll want to contact Experian and Trans Union, which are the other 2 main credit bureaus since it is likely some of the incorrect information is in their systems, too.

Hope this helps. Good luck.
