i recently just turned 18 and have been using verizon prepaid for some time now. when i went to the verizon store, they told me that i would have to put down a $400 dollar deposit to open up a new line (for contract AND month-to-month). i was considering sprint, but i am hearing that their service is spotty and unreliable. so what about at&t or t-mobile? which one would i have a better chance of getting a contract with? (without the ridiculous deposit)

In my expierence, T-Mobile is probably going to be the easiest credit wise, also they have several options for people with little, no, or bad credit. You may be able to get a phone with no deposit, or get a flex pay and buy a phone for retail price.

Before you make a decision and try to run your credit with both, ask around and make sure 1 or both work good in your area. Never rely on peoples expierence unless they live in your town, or ask friends who have service what they think.

If nothing else, stick with Verizon prepaid until you have a little credit history, and then get a post paid account when you have some credit established, because you obviously like them and they work where you need them to, which is more important than anything!

I have to second that. Don't drop Verizon just because you don't have a credit history. Stick with INpulse until you've established some kind of credit history, then try your luck with postpaid again.

yeah i just checked out their website and them seem pretty upfront. 40 bucks a motnh for unlimited talk and text and 20 mb of web browsing is pretty unbeatable. i was considering the boost mobile 50/month plan but from previous experience with nextel....im definitely passin that up. but a question, would i be able to use the phone i have now (env2, already activated) or would i have to buy one of their phones. also, i would want to transfer my number over, and i saw an option for it, but i dont have an account number. i looked on my verizon and still wasnt able to locate it.

I was told any verizon phone or verizon inpulse phone would work though apparently there is some trouble on some phones with mms or data. there is a pageplus forum at howardforums.

I'm pretty sure you can port your number by calling cs but that forum I listed above can answer most of your questions better than I since I'm a pretty new customer.

To be honest, you're 18 and you are going to have to build up your credit somehow. I would suggest saving, begging, selling anything you have to pay for the credit deposit. After so many "timely" payments, you'll get your money back with intrest. Then you'll be on the books as having a little credit and you never know, you may need it to buy a car or something in the next few years.

My $.02 worth anyways!
