Creative way to discuss articles in class?

I am looking for creative ways to discuss various articles that I assign my students. Each are only a few pages long. I have about 45 students. So far I have:

1) Split them up into groups of 4 - 5, have them answer various questions in their group, then have each group share their answer to one of the questions with the class.

2) I have split the class up the same way, into groups of 4 - 5, given each group a different reading, had them come up with the key points of the reading, and 2 discussion questions, then had them lead a discussion with half of the class. (it's hard doing groups with such a big class)

I am looking for another idea! When I simply ask discussion questions with the whole class, I get the same 5 people answering and participating and everyone else sits there. I am looking for another way to get everyone involved without doing the same old thing.

Thanks for your ideas!
