Creating new patterns on Photoshop 6?

I am using the paint bucket tool, and I checked the pattern box, but I can't find a pattern that looks like a sky. When I look for patterns, and click on the two little arrows, for the menu, there's an option that says new pattern, but I don't know how to get it so I can select it so I can make a new pattern. Can you help?
