Just wondered if anyone else had ever experienced this. I had my appendix removed 18 months ago and because it wasn't infected they did a larger op and had a good look round inside me so I was left with a 5 inch scar on level with navel right side. After the op for first 3 weeks my muscle above incision was in constant mild spasm that was more tight feeling than painful and after months eased and was told it was effect of cutting muscle - it used to twitch massively and I also had large numb area of skin around incision that I still have to this day.
A few months after the op I noticed that if I did a certain movement - example is if laying in bed and got a itch on inside of knee - if I stretched my arm down to scratch or if i was sitting down and needed to take my shoe off if I lifted foot up and stretched arm down at same time - i would get sudden severe cramp in the muscle below and over the incision - excruitiating pain and you can see a huge lump of muscle go into spasm and jump up and down like a fist punching out!! Staightening up would make it go away but for days afterwards the slightest wrong movement and off it would go again. I could be okay for months then forget and do wrong movement and then it off again. I also at these times get weird tightness in abdo muscles with twitching and jumping and attacks of sharp stabbing pains.
I have asked a few doctors about this and they all say it must be side effect of having large abdo muscle cut - maybe damaged a nerve to the muscle especially as there was damage to the skin nerves in such a large area.
No one has any suggestions for me.
I have been having a few attacks in last two weeks and today while travelling in car I stupidly lifted my foot to take my shoe off and got the worst attack ever and could not stop ( I was passenger) as on a motorway but after 10 mins of me screaming in pain driver pulled over to hard shoulder and I got out and stood up but it has left me with spasming muscles in abdomen and unbelievable kicking of them and I know that slightest wrong movement and the evil cramp will come back.
Just wondred if anyone had ever had this after large op?
