I thought this was really kinda ok. Like say, six or seven of ten. People seemed to think it would be the next Cowboy Bebop when it came out, and from my point of view, it's nowhere near that, and I'm not at all sure why people would make that comparison. But the action was pretty good, the animation was pretty good, the story wasn't so bad if somehwat cliched. A pirate turned honest by his his best friend's daughter? No wai! Except that nobody believes in him because he's such a scoundrel? No wai! They do a nice job of stringing that out, though, and you're not really sure whether he's actually after the treasure for himself until the end. And there are some fun bits in the supporting cast, although the gothic lolita robots are just kinda creepy. I know others will think "hot" rather than creepy, but... yeah.
Definitely not a classic, but not a waste of six and a half hours, either.
