Hi, I would be very grateful if you could answer the following two questions about Courtship Patterns for me :-

1) Why do the male and female engage in this ritual ?

2) What courtship patterns do humans engage in ?

Thank You :D.

1) Animals engage in courtship for a number of reasons. Foremost is to determine if they are both members of the same species (this is very important in insects). Another major reason is to determine that both are in good health and ready for mating (for example, squirrel females lead the male(s) on a chase for hours until exhaustion). Females tend to look for males who are eager, but not too eager. Finally, some aspects of courtship allow for the avoidance of mating with close kin.

2) Eye contact. Sidling up. Pheromone detection. Conversation. Brushing up. Privacy seeking. Back rub. Making out. Copulation.
