I have Gerd, diagnosed by EGD. On PPI for 10 years. last weekend I had the weirdest, scariest thing happen. I was on vacation and went into a shop and all of a sudden had a sever tickle on the left side of my throat. Not your normal postnasal drip tickle! I drank water, didnt help, I started violently coughing and almost threw up from it....then I tried to take a breath in and I really couldnt,,,I had a loud sound trying to breathe in. I started to panic, obviously I couldnt breathe or talk. I calmly walked out of the shop and sat down and it got easier to breathe in another 15 seconRAB, but I still couldnt talk, throat was watering, etc. It all resolved itself and I was fine, but shaken. Since I was on vacation I couldnt google it till I got home and all I could come up with was a spasm of the larynx or vocal chorRAB, which closes airway. It can be triggered by Gerd, but I dont have lpr? Anyone else have this.
Im hoping it never happens again because it was the scariest thing.

Hi KSC,

I had the same symptoms you described about 3 weeks ago in front of my son. It is very scary but for me I was familiar with this. I had fundoplication surgery 12 years ago and had those episodes pretty frequently prior to the surgery. I had been doing well until recently and all my symptoms are rearing their ugly head. As we speak, I have a 24hr pH probe and had a manometry this morning. They are looking at LPR I believe. My symptoms are chronic cough, chest pain, choking sensation, voice changes, occasional asthma like episodes about 30 minutes after eating. These are the same symptoms I had 12-14 years ago but back then they called it atypical reflux.
