Could you see Nintendo making a "Wii 2"?

Judging from Nintendo's past few consoles and how they've differed so much. And now seeing as how the Wii seems to be very successful, do you think Nintendo will make a "Wii 2" keeping the same control style and theme but then going the route of full HD output?

I think the Wii control style can be something Nintendo can bank on people learning and liking for a long time. I fully understand why Nintendo didn't go with Microsoft and Sony with HD gaming for the Wii and this generation but I think for their next console they will have to. I can only imagine what the Wii menu would look like in 1080i or 1080p.

I would also think they could make the Wii 2 with full compatibility with existing Wii remotes and nunchucks. I could see Nintendo releasing the Wii 2 and saying "You can continue using your Wii remotes, nunchucks and classic controllers". Focusing on the base console hardware itself and expanding on the Wii would be a smart move in my opinion. The Wii 2 would also be fully compatible with existing Wii titles.

Depends on how much the technology they used for the motion sensitivity increases between now and then. If the technology goes up exponentually then I could see them releasing new wiimotes otherwise I would hope they would just keep the same wiimotes.

I do see them going this direction for a while expecially with the continued sucess its having. I almost want to say its an underground sucess because it is getting little to no media attention but from everything I have noticed is the wii >>> ps3 in terms of release and peoples overall happyness.

cliffs: go wii!

with the money they make of this console, i think theyll catch up on the graphics department. i cant see them changing much else. they will just add to the consle they have created now in the future.

I'm not a Nintendo fanboy by any stretch. The only Nintendo device I have owned I bought for my kids. A Gamecube, which I thought sucked and so did my boys. And a Gameboy, which is "ok".

The Wii is the first time I have gotten excited about a console since my Sega Master System (with CD attachment!!!).

Unfortunately I only played it for about 2 hours and had to put it all back in the box so I could wrap it and put it under the tree. It's killing me......

Soooo, I say yes. This influx of cash for Nintendo will give them incentive to make an HD Wii with better hardware. But I still see them keeping graphics kind of simple so the hardware won't be too extreme and will keep costs down.

Definatly. The controller is great and it picks up a lot of things I didn't think it would... but it still leaves some to be desired.

Does anyone else get worried at the fact that there are some slow downs during Wii Tennis? I can see those types of things happening in Oblivion for the 360.. but if simple things like Tennis can overpower the system... how much innovation are we going to get?

I was thinking about this as well. Maybe a few years down the line they will offer a Wii that is capable of outputting in HD. I wonder if t his is capable through firmware updates.

by the time it's time for a new console, the 360 and PS3 hardware should be cheap and Nintendo should be able to at least match that. plus, they have the potential to output fantastic visuals so anything that looks that good will still look great.

If you look at the Wii for what it is, the graphics aren't that bad at all. It's not meant to be compared to the PS3 or 360. I'm quite sure Nintendo will go HD with their next console. It was understandable right now in 2006 but in 5-6 years they will have to make the move to HD.

I hope the next generation wii will upgrade their graphics and maybe cater to the older generation with more adult games. The way the new wii-mote is going, it's gonna allow a bunch of programmers to be really creative with their ideas. I like the idea of slashing some enemies and watching their blood pour out of their bodies. If they can do this then I'm more than sure that Nintendo will be at the top of the list once again.

yeah I don't understand the graphics hate. zelda looks plenty pretty for me to enjoy it, I don't need to the the sweat on his face or the laces on his boots or the bulge in his pants in HD detail to know what's going on... and zelda doesn't even use the wii's full graphics potential...

Would be cool if they made a Wii version that supports 1080i.

Is there any expansion slots on the Wii? Cant they release some kind of expansion like they did with the N64 to improve graphics?

Saying that though, Zelda is an example of what the Wii can do. If we go forward in time 1-2 years, I can see games only looking better.
